From the Principal

Dear Spartan Families,

It is an honor to join the Springfield Township Middle School community as your new principal. My passion lies in fostering dynamic relationships with and between students, staff, and families, guided by a steadfast belief that every student can learn and succeed. Although the middle school years can present challenges, they are a great opportunity for developing and nurturing healthy adolescents by working collaboratively to foster empathy, trust, and a positive mindset through relationships and connections.

I cannot think of a better way to begin my 30th year in education than to be at STMS. My focus throughout my journey—as an elementary school counselor, K-12 supervisor of guidance, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, middle school principal, and more recently, as an elementary special education supervisor—has always been on placing students first. I hold an undergraduate degree from Providence College, as well as master's and doctoral degrees from Gwynedd Mercy University. Additionally, I am an adjunct professor at Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy Universities, teaching in their master's and doctoral programs. These experiences have helped shape my philosophy of creating a foundation of connection, caring, and relationships so that all students feel valued and successful.

On a personal note, I reside in New Hope with my sons, ages 19 and 21. Family, authenticity, integrity, hard work, and kindness are values that guide both my personal and professional life. Supporting my sons' distinct journeys has deepened my understanding of the importance of personalized growth and development.

Throughout the year, I will be scheduling opportunities to engage with students and families. We will schedule family sessions, called Spartan Seminars, throughout the year on various topics, and our students will experience Spartan Town Hall Meetings during their school day. Our administrative team is hosting a meet and greet for families on Thursday, August 22, from 1-2:30 pm and 5-6:30 pm. Our goal is to welcome you to a new year and provide a sense of community, connection, and belonging for all of our families.

As I join this talented administrative team, faculty, and staff at STMS, our shared vision of listening leadership centers on essential attributes such as collaboration, culture, community, curriculum, instruction, and equity. This aligns with our district's mission to cultivate high-achieving, resilient, and responsible citizens. Achieving this mission requires our commitment to building strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families while fostering a sense of belonging and value for everyone.

As a leader, I am dedicated to examining our beliefs and practices to enhance student outcomes and foster collaborative approaches. Through courageous conversations, consistent communication, and a positive climate, we will empower confident learners and strengthen our community one interaction at a time.

I am thankful for the opportunity to embark on this journey with all of you. Together, we can nurture a positive and supportive environment where every student thrives and experiences the “magic in the middle!”

Sincerely,

Dr. Amy K. Mangano
