Type I Diabetes Information
Under PA House Bill 2185, districts are required to provide families with information related to Type I Diabetes. To fulfill this law, the district is providing two resources that may be of assistance to families. The National Association of School Nurses provides a one-page document that highlights the stages, causes, risks, and other information related to Type 1 Diabetes. In addition, the district has created an information resource for families.
Lyme Disease Education and Tick Removal Notification
Act 120 of 2024 was signed into law on October 29th. This bill requires a school nurse or employee of a school district to remove a tick from a student in accordance with guidelines developed by the Secretary of Health. At a parent/guardian's request, the district will preserve the tick so that the parent/guardian may send the tick to the Tick Research Lab of Pennsylvania for testing. The district is required to notify parents/guardians in writing that a tick has been removed on the day it was removed and to provide information about Lyme disease and it's symptoms, along with information about seeking medical treatment.
Additional information about Tick Bites and Lyme Disease is provided below.
